"Rīgas satiksme" to equip another 22 trolleybuses with diesel generators
This year another 22 trolleybuses will be equipped with diesel generators to upgrade the infrastructure of the trolleybus fleet and technical condition of the public transport in Riga, as well as to save funds. At present "Rīgas satiksme" runs 90 trolleybuses equipped with diesel generators. They have proven to be successful in serving trolleybus routes No. 9 and 27, extended to Riga central railway terminal. They also make the trolleybus traffic in the city more flexible
The diesel generators are bought for a total of EUR 1.7 M as part of the contract on supplying low-floor trolleybuses "ŠKODA 24Tr" to Riga city, signed between RP SIA "Rīgas satiksme", "ŠKODA ELECTRIC" a.s. and SIA "ALKOM-TRANS" on January 22, 2007.
The trolleybuses equipped with diesel generators are mobile and capable to serve passengers even in case of interrupted electric power supply or traffic jams. Moreover, they can carry passengers in streets which lack trolley network infrastructure.
